ALICE IN WONDERLAND is the theme of this year’s Street Fair, and also the title of Tina’s wonderful Children’s Dance Show which will be performed on the day.
In keeping with the theme, the ever popular Memorial Hall Teas will take the form of THE MAD HATTER’S TEA PARTY!
The Children’s Fancy Dress can be anything “Alice” related… the White Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat, Alice herself…the possibilities are endless! If you don’t want to dress up, why not enter the competition with a hat fit for the Mad Hatter’s party! Just come along to the Playing Close (Co-op end) at 1.15 pm on September 16th, and join in the fun. There are prizes (kindly sponsored by Charlbury Co-op) for individual entries and one for the best group. Entry is free!
Open Gardens enjoyed by all on Sunday, everyone put in a great effort and the sun shone!!
The profit from the day was (drum roll!!) a massive £2280.59!
Tour of Britain cycle race coming to Charlbury
The Tour of Britain – Britain’s only elite cycle stage race – will be coming to Charlbury in September.…
The penultimate stage of the nine-day race will pass through Charlbury on Saturday 9th September. The racers will be riding from Hemel Hempstead to Cheltenham, before a finish in Cardiff the next day. The Tour of Britain attracts many of the greatest bike riders in the world who in previous years have included Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish and Chris Froome.
The route will enter via the Woodstock Road, then pass along Park Street, Church Street and Market Street before leaving via Dyers Hill. It is expected to pass around lunchtime. From Charlbury the race goes on to Shipton, Bourton-on-the-Water, Moreton, Stow, Winchcombe and Cheltenham.
To show the town at its best to riders, visitors and TV cameras, the Street Fair bunting will be strung up and a Big Town Tidy event is in the offing. On the day itself, we are hoping to organise family cycling events, stalls and rides. If you would like to help, please contact Richard Fairhurst (11 Market Street). Given Charlbury’s location on the railway line from London and Oxford, and the Saturday timing, we are expecting big crowds!

A very useful meeting was held in the Cornbury Room attended by many new volunteers! We look forward to planning another great Street Fair for 2017!
This Saturday, January 14, we invite anyone who is interested in joining the Charlbury Street Fair team to come along to a meeting at 5pm in The Cornbury Room at The Bell Hotel.
If you any time or skills to offer – big or small – we’d love to see you. New volunteers are vital to keep this popular community event going.
